Kendra Scott Foundation & Ash Britt Supports Reading in NC Charter Schools!

On April 16th, New Dimensions Charter School in Morganton was presented with its very own Yellow Library from the Kendra Scott Foundation.  The presentation included a beautiful yellow bookshelf full of brand-new multicultural, bilingual, and diverse books that were carefully selected just for the students at New Dimensions.  This special presentation was a partnership between the Kendra Scott Foundation and Ash Britt.  Ms. Laura from the Asheville Kendra Scott store MC’d the event.  Ms. Elsy from Ash Britt shared about their book “Henry and the Hurricane”.  Community Member, Glaucia Mir from TOSS (The Old School Studio) read “Henry and the Hurricane” to the NDS Kindergarten students.  At the end of the presentation, Ms. Laura presented New Dimensions with a check for $1,000 to provide additional library support.  Each student received a Yellow Library tote bag with a coloring book and resources on storm preparedness.

On April 17th, ArtSpace Charter School in Swannanoa received its Yellow Library!  Ms. Kimmy from the Swannanoa Planning Department was the guest reader - and she was a reader like no other!  Ms. Kimmy gave each of the characters in the book a different voice, and the mom in the story sang her words!  Ms. Kimmy made reading fun for the 3rd graders in the audience!  ArtSpace received $2,000 to purchase brand-new multicultural, bilingual, and diverse books for their Yellow Library and was gifted an additional $1,000 Literacy Grant.  Ms. Laura from the Asheville Kendra Scott store MC’d the event.  Ms. Elsy from Ash Britt shared about their book “Henry and the Hurricane”.  At the end of the event, each student received a Yellow Library tote bag with a coloring book and resources on storm preparedness.

“As part of our commitment to youth education, the Kendra Scott Foundation’s Yellow Library program provides access to brand-new multicultural, bilingual, and diverse books through our partnership with First Book—because every child deserves to see themselves in the stories they read.”   To learn more, visit their website at:  KSF Yellow Library | Kendra Scott
