A New Opportunity for Public Charter Families

Excerpt from the Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina Monthly Newsletter.  Published on July 31, 2026.

We recently joined the North Carolina Association of Public Charter Schools to discuss one of the most significant new opportunities in education: the federal Education Freedom Tax Credit.

We shared how this program could benefit students in every educational setting, including public charter schools. Beginning in 2027, scholarships could help eligible charter school families pay for education expenses beyond what their school provides, such as academic tutoring, support services for students with disabilities, after-school enrichment, uniforms, or other qualified educational needs.

Our message to public charter leaders was simple: this is not just a private school program. It has the potential to give families across North Carolina more resources to customize their children's education and access support that otherwise may be out of reach.

PEFNC is working to help schools, families, and other partners understand the opportunity and prepare for its launch.
