Kristen Mullins is the kind of teacher every student deserves, and every school hopes to have as a staff member. As a 4th-grade teacher at Brevard Academy, she consistently sets high academic expectations while ensuring every student feels supported in reaching them. In her classroom, rigor and encouragement go hand in hand. Students are challenged not just to get the right answer, but to explain their thinking, question ideas, and explore new perspectives.
Kristen has a natural gift for encouraging critical and creative thinking. Whether students are diving into a CKLA story, using graph paper to tackle math problems independently, or collaborating to answer a question, she pushes them to think deeply and take intellectual risks, fostering curiosity, resilience, and confidence as they explore new ideas to solve problems and articulate their thinking with clarity.
Ms. Mullins also understands that learning is about more than just academics. She contributes to students’ character development by teaching responsibility, empathy, and perseverance. At the same time, Kristen models behaviors that empower every child to reach their full potential. She celebrates growth, normalizes mistakes, and creates an environment where students feel safe to try, to fail, and to try again.
