Mission Statement

The mission of Roxboro Community School is to achieve and maintain educational excellence by providing a small, inviting and nurturing school that focuses on grades six through 12. RCS values and respects each member of our school family, thus enabling everyone to become effective, productive citizens. RCS will provide an environment that will direct our students to focus on relevant and rigorous learning that will continue after high school. It is the vision of our school to create educated, responsible and productive men and women who are equipped to face the challenges of the 21st Century.

  • RCS is located in a renovated former cotton mill building, circa 1899, that is on the National Register of Historic Buildings.

Carolina International School Announces New Head of School

The Board of Directors has completed its search for a new Head of School for Carolina  International School (CIS). The school’s Board of Directors met during their monthly  December meeting and determined that Dr. Paul Bryant will take the helm at Cabarrus  County’s first public charter school that focuses on international and environmental  curricula. He will begin his role on January 3, 2022. 

Dr. Bryant, an educator with almost thirty years of experience, has worked as a teacher, a  grant writer, and an administrator. He has expanded the programming, services, and  enrollment at five different universities. His work improved freshmen retention rates,  streamlined admissions processes, significantly increased the four-year graduation rate,  and resulted in successful accreditation processes.

SHOUT OUT! Henderson Collegiate senior, Ariadna Cruz, Selected for Full-Ride Scholarship to Denison University

NCAPCS is sending a shout out to Ariadna Cruz, a senior at Henderson Collegiat, who has been selected for an early-Ariadna Cruzdecision, full-ride scholarship to Denison University through the highly selective QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship program.


This year, QuestBridge’s 45 college partners matched with 1,674 students who are recognized as College Match Scholarship Recipients, the highest number to date, according to a December 1, 2021 press release. The Match Scholars were chosen from 6,312 finalists out of a pool of 16,500 applicants nationwide based on academic achievement, financial qualifications, and personal character.

TCLP makes it easy for U.S. schools to grow their critical language programs by placing fully-funded teachers from Egypt, Morocco, or China to teach Arabic or Chinese as a foreign language for an academic year. By sharing their languages and cultures, the teachers bring global competencies to their host schools and communities. Host a teacher in 2022 by starting an application today! Since 2006, TCLP has sponsored over 300 highly trained teachers that have worked in over schools across 39 states and impacted over 87,500 students! TCLP teachers have also collectively conducted over 25,500 hours of cultural outreach to bring international experiences to their host schools and communities. The application deadline for TCLP host schools is Friday, October 22, 2021 at 11:59pm EST.

New Schools Venture Fund

$2.5 million in grants: Whole-school Models

NewSchools is opening a $2.5-million funding opportunity for early-stage, equity-centered innovators who will partner with schools to implement bold new models or programs that can improve teaching and learning outcomes.
Through this effort, we will support new and existing nonprofit and for-profit organizations offering whole-school model solutions. Grantees will receive one-year grants of $150,000 to $350,000 along with other supports, including coaching and access to communities of practice.

GLOW Academy of Wilmington logoGLOW Academy is the only all-girls public charter school in North Carolina. Its curriculum is focused on hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

Beginning this year GLOW students will be able to combine all those subjects in a new program focusing on film and television production, digital media, and journalism. Evergreen Community Charter School teacher Jo Giordano leads a crew of five middle school students as the morning announcement emcees. Each school day these positive messages set the tone for social and emotional learning. As we know, positive peer pressure creates the "x factor" for student outcomes. At Evergreen, this student-leadership initiative is the day 1 influence for school culture and climate. When Jo couldn't find a resource that was easy enough for implementation, she created it. Wise From Within is a self-published book that lays out a script for the students to read each day over the loud speaker.
